01

Identify the starting surface

Describe the substrate and any coating already present. Include the size of the area, surface geometry, and any conditions that need attention before finishing.

  • Walls: substrate, existing coating, approximate area, and site conditions.
  • Furniture: substrate, coated faces, edges or curves, and the existing process.
  • If a detail is unknown, identify it as a question for review.
02

Request the instructions for your product

Application sequence, preparation, tools, mixing, drying, and protective layers should come from the instructions for the material being used. Do not transfer a method from another finish because the effect looks similar.

Ask for Application Information
03

Keep the sample and application brief together

Record the finish code, sample reference, intended substrate, and any application questions. This gives the project team a consistent reference when discussing the result.

04

Prepare a material inquiry

Provide the coated area and schedule alongside the selected finish. Material quantities need to relate to the intended system and product information, not only to an image of the desired appearance.
