Preparing a Surface Brief

A useful brief connects the appearance you want with the surface to be coated. Early estimates are useful when they are clearly identified.

01

Name the finish or the visual direction

List the selected codes, or explain the color, texture, and reflection you want to explore. Mark inspiration images as references rather than confirmed product selections.

02

For walls, describe the area

Include the room or space, wall substrate if known, current coating, approximate coated area in square feet, and project location. Add the stage and timing of the project.

03

For furniture, describe the component

Include the substrate, existing process, coated faces, edges, and curves. Give the estimated coated area per component or in total, with the anticipated number of components if relevant.

04

Separate known facts from questions

Identify the details you know and those still being developed. Include any product information or use requirements that need discussion, rather than treating the desired performance as confirmed.
